Old photos are precious memories not only for you but also your family members. As the years go on, the printed old photos might wear out and can't retrieve. Unlike printed pictures, the digital photos could last forever and transfer family memories to more generations. Now scan photo to DVD and perserve family memories eternally.
If you use traditional camera and have got loads of photos in album, you may also want to scan photos to computer so that convert photo to digital format. Afterwards, you could get more from these digital photos, like backup onto DVD, send to others as DVD gift, make a show to play on TV, etc.
But scanning photo to computer is not an easy job. It needs patience and some tips and tricks. As you may know, some company provides photo scanning service. But here, I will show you how to scan photos with photo scanner by yourself and burn photo to DVD with music. It's easy to burn scanned pictures onto DVD with good-looking menu templates. Step 1: Select a good photo scanner
Scanning photo to pc is a time consuming thing, but a good photo scanner can save you lots of time. In the market, there are two types of scanners – flatbed scanners and film scanners. Flatbed scanners are prevalent and for general usage, like scanning printed photos and text documents. Film scanners are more costly but allow you to scan both slides and negatives.
Some photo scanners also allows you to scan multiple photos one time. It mainly depends upon the software packed with your photo scanner. As far as I know, Microtek scanner and its ScanWizard 5 software could to that. It's very useful if you have tons of photos to scan.
Before scanning photo to computer, make sure your scanner works properly. If necessary, clean the glass with lint-free wipes.
Step 2: Prepare your photos to scan
Keep your photos clean and fingerprints-free. If there is dirt mark on the photo, try to clean it with lint-free wipes as cleaning scanner glass. When you pick up the photos, avoid printing your fingers in the center, just take the corner. To get best photos scanning result, you need to do your best at the start.
Step 3: Start photo scanning
Now put the prepared photo face-down onto the photo scanner glass, and press Scan button to start photo scanning. If you scan multiple photos at the same time, put photo side by side, and line by line.
Different scanning parameters will generate different digital photos. Most photo scanners allow you to specify image resolution between 150-600dpi. The higher image resolution, the slower your photos will be scanned and the larger file size of scanned digital images. 300dpi will be enough for decent result, but if necessary, select 600dpi to get better pictures.
Step 4: Adjust scanned photos
Usually, the coming along scan software provides basic photo image editing tool to adjust scanned photos, for example, brightness, contrast, sharpening, etc. You could also edit scanned photo using famous Photoshop and free photo image editing tool Gimp (free alternative to Photoshop).
Tips for how to scan photo with Photoshop
1. The full version of Photoshop CS2 or above (and possibly some earlier versions) can be used to direct scan several photos to Photoshop using WIA or TWAIN support and separate them out into individual photo editing windows. To do so, arrange your several printed photo on photo scanner. Next, go to File > Import to scan photo with selected device. Then follow on-screen instructions to scan several photo into single image. Finally, go to File > Automate > Crop and Straighten Photos to separate several pictures.
Secondly, Burn Scan Photos to DVD with Music
Step 1: Import Scanned Photos and Music
You could use Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder to easily burn your digitized photos to DVD with transitions, effects, title, credits and well-designed menu templates. After install photo to dvd program, launch it and click Add Photos/Videos button, in the dialog that appears, locate the folder containing scanned photos. To add music, double-click empty area on background music table and select desired music files. If required, double-click photo and music to edit them.
Step 2: Change Transition for Scanned Photo DVD
When you have imported photos, random photo transition will automatically applied to them. But you can change photo transition by clicking transition thumb on storyboard and selecting desired transition in the resulting dialog.
Step 3: Author Photo DVD menu
Switch to Menu tab to author DVD menu for photo slideshow. Many pre-made DVD menu templates are provided on the left of Menu tab. Double click desired menu template to applied. And then right-click on the right to customize menu to get a personalized slideshow DVD menu.
Step 4: Burn Photos to DVD with music
The final step is to burn scanned photo to DVD. To do so, just select DVD Video as the output format and go to Option dialog to define correct TV standard. Finally, click Start to save photo to DVD. Once scanned photo DVD is burned, play on TV with stand-alone DVD player or portable DVD player. So, you have transferred your printed photo on TV.
Tips for how to scan photo to DVD
1. Organize scanned photos into various slideshow, for example, family, wedding, vacation, holiday, etc. Each slideshow will appear as one item on the DVD menu.
2. In individual slideshow, right-click desired photo and select Set as Thumbnail so that your slideshow is displayed by that photo on DVD menu.
3. Right-click on a completely designed DVD menu template and select Save as Template to save template to Custom category so that you can use it next time when authoring DVD menu.
